My work has been inspired by the spaces between things. Borders, boundaries, crossroads, thresholds, horizons, holes in the ground, and the edges where one color bleeds into one another are all varieties of liminal space. In many cultures these spaces represent the meeting point of the physical and supernatural worlds.
I use the cloud pictogram to stand in for the idea of thought, as in a cartoon, or for imagination, as in the dreamer looking up at the clouds. My interest in these paintings is in how variations in color and design affect the viewer’s emotional response to the image. |
