Considering the current sociopolitical
conflicts between the West and the Middle East, we have taken the
Kuwait Art Foundation's invitation as an opportunity to explore
the subject of "Pop" as an aesthetic unifying concept of our
global society.
"Pop Art" is known as the 1960's art movement
that incorporated elements of western popular culture and mass
media to create "high art." The word "pop" is
synonymous with explode, burst, and bang – all that demonstrates
the impact this work can have.
Pop continues to be a strong force
in today's art world and forms the framework for this exhibition,
which reflects how this artistic phenomenon has evolved from
the 1960's to the present.
As a whole this exhibition could be
defined by one of its themes “Embracing
Pop” which addresses contemporary visual aesthetics where
Pop has transformed over time mixing elements of modernism and
popular culture with ideas of contemporary design, craft, and
street art.
This exhibition presents twenty contemporary artists
working in sculpture, photography, drawing, mixed media and
painting which is based on their personal visions and ideas of the
present popular culture.
